One day in early 1994 in Tianjin, China, I took a local taxi to get to my office since my company car was not

available at that time.

In a minute, I had seen a middle-aged guy who was running my taxi very close, driving his motor cycle,

shouting some words which I could hardly understand with my poor Chinese at that time.

At the moment, I just wondered why he had been doing that way. But it didn’t take longer than a few seconds

until I could understand why he was trying so, because I realized myself very soon that my mobile-phone had

disappeared out of my jacket pocket.I hastily asked my taxi driver to turn to the place where I got on the taxi. When I got back to the place,

a few passers-by were passing my phone around with each other. They were most likely to look for some

clues. As a matter of course, I had managed to get the phone back onto my hands, by showing them

my business card and foreigner’s ID card as well.

In other words, the motor-cycling guy witnessed by chance that my phone slipped out of my pocket

while I were getting on the vehicle, and followed my taxi immediately to inform me of its being slipped

down to the ground.

However, I could not have expressed any thanks to him that day, to my regret, since he went on his way soon

after he gave me the information.

As this year marks the 20th year since I had come back to Korea after finishing my work in China, I was struck,

all of sudden, by an idea that I would visit Tianjin again and like to look for the guy, one of the Chinese who

I can never forget during my 3-year-stay in China., even by way of local newspaper ads or the likes…
